Resting along the water’s edge in the Everglades, this alligator caught the final warm light of the evening. Seeing the possibility from a distance, I prepared my camera and moved slowly along the levee, knowing I might have only one opportunity before it slipped beneath the surface. I pressed the shutter while the water was still, preserving the light, reflection, and quiet presence of one of the most remarkable alligators I have photographed.
