About Salty Chuck
Salty Chuck wasn't born from a business plan. It was born in the quiet.
Behind Salty Chuck is wildlife photographer and conservation artist Colby DeGraaf, whose earliest experiences in Florida's wild places shaped not only his photography, but the philosophy behind the brand.
Long before there was a name, there were mornings spent waiting. Watching first light spill across endless sawgrass. Listening to the wind move through mangroves and the gentle rhythm of water against the shoreline. Learning that the most extraordinary moments in nature are rarely announced—they reveal themselves only to those willing to slow down.
Over time, those moments became a collection of stories. A great blue heron lifting effortlessly into the dawn. An American alligator breaking the glass-like surface with barely a ripple. An American crocodile emerging from the mangroves as if it had always been part of the landscape. Each encounter reinforced the same lesson: wild places ask for patience, respect, and humility.
Those experiences inspired Colby to create Salty Chuck—a brand dedicated to sharing the beauty of the natural world through museum-quality fine art while fostering a deeper appreciation for conservation. Every photograph begins with ethical observation, never disturbing wildlife or the fragile ecosystems they inhabit. The goal is not simply to create beautiful images, but to preserve fleeting encounters that remind us why these places deserve our protection.
Today, Salty Chuck represents Colby's vision of art as a bridge between people and the natural world. Every print is crafted to become more than a photograph—it is a lasting reminder of a moment that can never be repeated and a celebration of the wild places that continue to inspire wonder.
For Colby, the Everglades is more than a landscape. It is a teacher. It has shown him that the greatest wildlife encounters cannot be forced, only received with patience. Through Salty Chuck, he invites others to experience that same sense of awe and to become stewards of the places that make those moments possible.
Because the greatest treasures of the wild aren't discovered by chance—they are revealed through patience, earned through respect, and preserved by those who choose to protect them.
